This sprawling area comprises Memorial Close In—as in, close to Loop 610 and the inner-loop core—and the Memorial Villages to its west/northwest spreading out toward Beltway 8. Memorial Close In, part of the City of Houston, borders Loop 610 and the lush, 1,466-acre Memorial Park to the east. The Memorial Villages are a collection of six contiguous areas that are independent from the City of Houston: Piney Point Village, Hedwig Village, Bunker Hill Village, Hunters Creek Village, Spring Valley Village, and Hilshire Village. Only Spring Valley Village and Hilshire Village are located north of I-10, surrounded by Spring Branch.
Although there are some townhouse/condominium options, the area is famed for its mid-century ranches and grand, newer construction estates in a variety of architectural styles. These spacious—and occasionally behemoth—homes sit on equally large, wooded lots. The lots here are typically much bigger than their inner-loop counterparts—as well as the lots in any of the other elite Houston neighborhoods, including Tanglewood, River Oaks, and West University. For its residents, Memorial offers the space—even acreage—and privacy that no other neighborhood can rival.
